Rania's newest paintings, and her most ambitious so far. Women sit quietly under golden halos with armfuls of roses, curl up in an armchair with their cats, or pose in jewels and silk beside a tiger. A man in white rests against a lion.أحدث لوحات رانيا، وأكثرها طموحاً حتى الآن. نساء يجلسن بهدوء تحت هالات ذهبية مع باقات من الورود، أو يسترخين على كرسي مع قططهنّ، أو يقفن بالمجوهرات والحرير إلى جانب نمر. ورجل بالأبيض يستند إلى أسد.

Worked in rich layers of gold, deep red and black, these canvases bring the everyday companions of her earlier work, the cats and the roses, into grand, dreamlike portraits.مرسومة بطبقات غنيّة من الذهبي والأحمر العميق والأسود، تحمل هذه اللوحات رفاق أعمالها السابقة اليوميين، القطط والورود، إلى بورتريهات مهيبة كأنها من حلم.

A fruit Rania comes back to again and again. Split open with the seeds spilling out, whole and heavy on a table, or reduced to a few red lines, the pomegranate is painted here in every red from soft pink to almost black.فاكهة تعود إليها رانيا مرّة بعد مرّة. مشقوقة وبذورها متناثرة، أو كاملة وثقيلة على الطاولة، أو مختصرة في خطوط حمراء قليلة. الرمّان هنا مرسوم بكل درجات الأحمر، من الوردي الناعم إلى ما يقارب الأسود.

The small pieces are framed as a set and read well together in a row. The large painting can hold a wall on its own.القطع الصغيرة مؤطّرة كمجموعة وتبدو جميلة معاً في صفّ واحد، أما اللوحة الكبيرة فتملأ جداراً وحدها.

Black cats, painted again and again. Asleep on an orange cushion, stretched along a red cloth, curled on pink in a wicker chair, lying in a slice of sun on a rumpled bed. Against Rania's hot grounds, a single dark shape is enough to hold the whole picture.قطط سوداء، مرسومة مرّة بعد مرّة. نائمة على وسادة برتقالية، ممدّدة على قماش أحمر، ملتفّة على الوردي في كرسي من الخيزران، أو مستلقية في شريط من الشمس على سرير مبعثر. أمام خلفيات رانيا الحارّة، يكفي شكل داكن واحد ليحمل اللوحة كلّها.

Seen together, the paintings become a study of the same moment in different colours. The cushion changes, the light changes, and the cat stays exactly where it wants to be.حين تُرى معاً، تصبح اللوحات دراسة للّحظة نفسها بألوان مختلفة: تتغيّر الوسادة ويتغيّر الضوء، وتبقى القطة تماماً حيث تريد.

Tabby, grey, ginger and white cats, alone and in pairs. Two cats asleep wrapped around each other, three stretched out in the heat, one washing a paw, one curled so tight it becomes a circle.قطط مخطّطة ورمادية وشقراء وبيضاء، وحيدة أو في أزواج. قطّتان نائمتان ملتفّتان على بعضهما، وثلاث ممدّدة في الحرّ، وواحدة تغسل مخلبها، وأخرى ملتفّة بإحكام حتى تصير دائرة.

Here the colour moves into the cats themselves: brown and rose on violet, white on ochre and pink, grey on deep red. Some are drawn in a few quick lines, others worked in layers until the fur almost glows.هنا ينتقل اللون إلى القطط نفسها: بنّي ووردي على البنفسجي، وأبيض على الأصفر الترابي والوردي، ورمادي على الأحمر العميق. بعضها مرسوم بخطوط سريعة قليلة، وبعضها مبنيّ بطبقات حتى يكاد الفرو يتوهّج.

Crows drawn fast in charcoal over pink, the line doing all the work: the heavy beak, the ragged feathers, the one bright eye. Alongside them, a gull in flight and a phoenix in blue and flame.غربان مرسومة بسرعة بالفحم فوق الوردي، والخط يقوم بكل شيء: المنقار الثقيل، والريش المبعثر، والعين اللامعة الوحيدة. وإلى جانبها نورس يطير وطائر فينيق بالأزرق واللهب.

These are some of the most direct pieces in the collection. Very little colour, a great deal of energy.من أكثر الأعمال مباشرة في المجموعة: لون قليل جداً، وطاقة كبيرة.

Faces caught in a glance or a tilt of the head. Some are painted in full colour, others in a few black lines.وجوه في نظرة عابرة أو ميلة رأس. بعضها مرسوم بألوان كاملة، وبعضها بخطوط سوداء قليلة.

The women on teal, dark blue and grey-green share the same long neck and steady gaze, painted in layers that let earlier colours show through. Flowers in every mood. Wildflowers in a glass vase against a soft blue wall, a bright bunch of roses glowing on black, poppies stacked above a round vase on burning yellow, and small dark-red roses painted up close.زهور بكل الأمزجة: أزهار برّية في مزهرية زجاجية أمام جدار أزرق ناعم، وباقة ورود مضيئة على الأسود، وشقائق النعمان فوق مزهرية مستديرة على أصفر متوهّج، وورود صغيرة حمراء داكنة مرسومة عن قرب.

Alongside them, her single rose stems, each drawn in one flowing line over a wash of pink, red or grey. Tall and narrow like the stems themselves, they hang well side by side.وإلى جانبها سيقان الورد المفردة، كلّ منها مرسوم بخط واحد منساب فوق طبقة من الوردي أو الأحمر أو الرمادي. طويلة ونحيلة مثل سيقانها، وتبدو جميلة معلّقة جنباً إلى جنب.

Quiet tables and windows. A porcelain jug and cup catching the afternoon light, a glass of wine in a stone window above the hills, a horn of plenty spilling fruit onto black, and small studies of white vases, green boxes and jars of dried flowers.طاولات ونوافذ هادئة: إبريق وفنجان من البورسلين في ضوء العصر، وكأس نبيذ في نافذة حجرية تطلّ على التلال، وقرن الوفرة يفيض بالفاكهة على الأسود، ودراسات صغيرة لمزهريات بيضاء وصناديق خضراء وبرطمانات من الزهور المجففة.

Here Rania slows right down: light, reflection and the weight of simple objects, painted with the patience of a classical still life.هنا تتمهّل رانيا تماماً: الضوء والانعكاس وثقل الأشياء البسيطة، مرسومة بصبر الطبيعة الصامتة الكلاسيكية.

Alongside them, her landscapes: a little harbour by the rocks, fishermen’s nets on the shore, a stone house among flowering gardens and a forest of umbrella pines.وإلى جانبها مناظرها الطبيعية: ميناء صغير قرب الصخور، وشباك الصيادين على الشاطئ، وبيت حجري بين حدائق مزهرة، وغابة من أشجار الصنوبر.
